What another amazing day beside the seaside

On Saturday 29 June over 50 runners of Blyth Running Club completed in a Backyard Challenge Ultra in memory of a former member and friend Tony Holland.

The event was also graced by the parents of Tony who travelled from Wales to start the event. This is the fifth-year year that the running club have organised this event and it keeps growing in size. The event this year was named Michael's Mad Marathon after Michael Ashby the organiser.

The event in which competitors must consecutively run the distance of 6.706 kilometres (4.167 mi) in less than one hour. The race is over when only one runner remains to complete a lap. This runner is marked as the winner and only finisher, with all other runners receiving a "DNF" (Did Not Finish). There is no predetermined end length or time in a backyard ultra, and the race continues as long as multiple runners can complete the loop within an hour. The Blyth event was restricted to 12 hours.

The last three men standing ran 13 laps which equates to 58.5 miles. The last female standing completed 10 laps which equates to 45 miles. ManHealth would like to thank all the participants and volunteers who help to make this such an exceptional event.
